Library Card Pockets

I have been wanting to make library card pockets since running across the suggestion on iHanna's blog at the beginning of last year.  I checked out the templates she linked to and bookmarked her post, but only just returned to the project last week.

The process is exactly the same as creating envelopes from recycled materials (maps, musical scores, book pages, etc.) and decorative papers:

1.  Select your template.  (I used the template Hanna suggested from Mirkwood Designs, but you can do an internet search to find a large number of variations on the theme.)

2.  Choose your papers.  I raided my scraps bags (uncharacteristically well-organized by color) and chose some larger pieces that fit the template.
3. Trace around the template with pencil.  Draw on the back side of your decorative paper to be able to see your mark better.
4.  Cut out.
5.  Fold as indicated.
6.  Glue in place.

Now I have several colorful library card pockets to use on art journal pages.  They would be a great place to include some "hidden journaling," as well as a place to tuck a photo, a note, or some other piece of ephemera or memorabilia that suited the focus of the page.
One of the ICAD challenge themes was "create a pocket," so you can bet that I used one of these on an index card this weekend.

It could also be fun to include a library card and pocket in the books you loan to your friends!

I could see the pockets making fun invitations, too.

I also want to make a bunch of pockets to follow this tutorial for creating a library pocket mini-album.

Let me know how you've used these library card pockets, and other uses you have in mind for them!

Great idea! Very charming. I love pockets and tucking things inside of them.

Finally catching up on blogs after my vacation. I really enjoyed your last few posts. The ICAD project seems to be coming along nicely and wow, did you get some goodies in the mail! I also love the library card pockets. I will definitely look for some templates of envelopes and stuff online, can't believe I didn't think of that before!

I like these. They are very different than the ones I have made. I like the long skinny ones that hold bookmarks. Ever seen them? Such nice variety of paper though A! Is it all bought scrapbook paper or is there some found pieces in there?
