Last year, I watched as many of my blogging friends participated in the Index-Card-a-Day (ICAD) challenge hosted by Tammy at Daisy Yellow. Participants create a work of art on a postcard every day for a designated period of time. They might doodle, draw, paint, collage--whatever they want to do on their 3x5 "canvas."
This summer, I decided to partipate in the ICAD project for the months of June and July. In the same way that altered Rolodex cards create a yummy collection of small-size art, I look forward to seeing the stack of altered index cards representing the days and moods of my summer.
Here is my first effort, inspired from a mailing I received from Longwood Garden:
If you would like to play along, you can check out all the details at Daisy Yellow; Tammy has a tab at the top of her blog dedicated to the challenge. She is very low-pressure, so you can jump in at any time, and give your creative muscles a gentle daily stretch!

Lovely way to start the challenge! Stopping by from ICAD2.
perfect remembrance of my childhood summers! great job!
I am doing this, too!!
How darling, I think you did a smashing job on this. I always wished I lived somewhere with lightening bugs.
Ah! I'm really excited to be doing this too. Can't wait to see yours!! :-)
Love the summer card!
I have only seen fireflies once, on a visit to Tennessee and was startled upon first glance and mesmerized with time. Your first card is very sweet and makes me long to see them again. They just seem so magical, like fairies.
This card almost makes me want to take a chair outside to look for fireflies! It's lovely.
so glad you're playing along! it will be so fun to see what you make every day. I love the little variety of jars. I can picture the kids who collected them running barefoot in the dusk, clamoring for ice cream, going to bed sticky, perhaps piled in one big room with their jars twinkling around them.
Lemons are perfect for a great start! Great Card...Judith, Texas
Love your card!I had one on the curtain in the laundry room tonight and his "light bulb" really did look that big and bright!
Sweet fireflies....brings me back to childhood. xox
I have done index card journals on several vacations in the past. It's very practical. Mmm...might do it the coming vacation too. Love your first one!
Okay, now look. I can't keep doing more stuff. The whole POINT of my hiatus was to not do more stuff. But LOOK at this index card! Now I have to do this.
When I first saw the letter ICAD, I thought it was some computer graphic program or something, and was just going to skim by. But no! Now I have to do it!
Can you imagine what great little journals you can make with these finished index cards?! And you could even use a rolodex collage as a piece of ephemera on the index card collage!
wait...
and then you can use the collaged index card on a postcard, and then you could use the postcard as ephemera on an envelope, and then you could use the altered envelope collage with the index card and the postcard and the rolodex card, as a piece of ephemera on a journal page.
I don't feel well.
Hooray! So glad you are joining in with ICAD this year :-)
