For awhile now, I've saved boxes from things like cereals, teas, macaroni and cheese, Skinny Cow ice cream treats (yum!), coffee filters, butter, and, yes, Nerds candy.
I figured that one day I would get a book binding machine, and all these boxes with their interesting and colorful advertising graphics would make great book covers.
And, of course, that day has arrived! With my Cinch, I am a little bookmaking cottage industry.
When I made my second book, for drawing while on vacation, I cut papers from a 9x12" pad of drawing paper. The resulting pile of leftover papers gave me materials for three additional little notebooks, and I decided to pursue a "tea theme":
They make happy little notebooks, don't you think?
So now, I've turned my kids' outgrown clothing into gift tags and magnets; old jeans into a ring, bracelet, bookmarks, and magnets; and now I've taken boxes that would get tossed into the recycling bin and turned them into notebooks.
'Fess up: What's the craziest thing you are "hoarding" right now? What do you think you might do with it someday?

Chris, of Parabolic Muse, was kind enough to blog about some things I sent her way recently as a thank-you for her own arty generosity. Check out her post here!

Ooh, I love that one with the koala bear on it. So cute! Have you ever seen Jenniebellie's blog? She makes fantastic journals with cerial boxes and other recycled stuff.
As for me I'm not sure I'm a hoarder of strange things, but I do always have the tendency to keep things I may be able to use later. The strangest thing may be those little wooden thingies that are attached to a new canvas and that can be used to make it stretch better in case it starts to sag (which it never does, so you always end up not using them). I have no idea what these things are called, but I keep thinking they could make a wonderful addition to a mixed media collage/assemblage painting. After years I still have not done this though... hmmmmm ;-)
Ok so you make me want to buy a Cinch!! They are at our Archivers on sale...I just may get one!! These are too cute. I have always loved the Celestial Seasonings tea boxes and felt compelled to do something with them. Darling, Andria!!
What's the craziest thing I'm saving? I drive myself nuts with it, but I keep saving plastic bottle caps! I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do with them, except maybe make a wreath with them someday down the road??? I don't know, but they're taking over the junk drawer, which is quickly running out of room for JUNK other than PLASTIC BOTTLE CAPS!! I think I'm gonna have to find a box or can to store them in instead, but then WHERE do I store THAT?! (0; Hope you're enjoying the holiday season! ~tina
Caatje, I thought that koala bear was especially sweet, too! I haven't seen Jenniebellie's blog; I will check it out! I can understand why you save those wooden things; it's hard to throw anything wood away!
Thanks, Leslie. I think you would have a lot of fun with the Cinch. If you can get it on sale, I say go for it!
Guess what, Tina? I save those plastic bottle caps, too! I saved them from milk bottles for YEARS until my husband thought I was totally nuts. But I've made some great color sorting games for my little girls with them, so I feel vindicated! :-)
Oh my... It looks like you are having a wonderful time with your Cinch!
Good for you *hugs*
Love these, such a clever idea!
LOVE! Looks like the Cinch is doing you good! Can't wait to see what other goodies you create!
So inspiring! I've been trying to use all my art supplies before buying any new ones...who knew I should be moving into the kitchen?!?
This is terrific.
